Artnet commissioned Caravan to provide additional IT resources for the rollout of a major new product: Artnet Analytics Reports. As arbiters of a sizable collection art market price data, Artnet needed assistance in building the infrastructure to commodify this data. Artnet had a pre-existing credit system, and the objective was to allow users to spend their Artnet credits to generate detailed financial analyses on specific sectors of the art market.

To bring Artnet's vision to life, Caravan collaborated with their team to design a RESTful webservice to support the application. Through multiple phases of review, the Caravan team produced technical documentation based on design standards set by the Artnet creative team. The final form of the document was used by Artnet's engineers to build a service tier integrating the web app with their analytics engine.

While the Artnet team finished development of the RESTful service, Caravan began development on the web application, following the designs of Artnet's creative team. Within a few weeks, we deployed a full application shell to their testing servers, and began full cross-browser testing.
Using Artnet's end-user browser statistics, we identified the older browsers requiring support (those used by customers). We then resolved cross-browser inconsistencies and devised degradation strategies for these users, resulting in a responsive CSS3 / AJAX interface that runs smoothly in dated browsers.

After the service tier was completed, we began integrating it into the completed application interface. Because of our careful approach to the previous steps, we were able to work closely with Artnet's engineers to identify and resolve bugs quickly. The complete app successfully launched in early 2012 and can be viewed here.
